Brick masonry - load-bearing wall under construction

Service · Masonry

Masonry & stone works

Load-bearing and decorative masonry - brick, block, and natural stone - without schedule-driven shortcuts.

Approach

Masonry is one of the few trades where speed does not improve the result. Mortar mixing, brick wetting, corner and level checks - these are not formalities. They are the reason a wall lasts fifty years rather than cracking within ten.

We work to both traditional craft principles and modern system assemblies (e.g. formed-block multi-wythe façades). The choice follows material, load, and architectural intent - not habit.

Workflow

Six stages from substrate to the last joint.

  1. 01

    Substrate check and prep

Foundation level check, damp-proof course installation, anchor-point set-out.

  2. 02

    Material intake

Brick or block batch verification: dimensions, moisture, colour tone. Bricks laid out by producer batch to prevent streaking.

  3. 03

    First course

The first course sets the wall. Plumb, true, correct joint - it takes longer than the next five courses combined.

  4. 04

    Rise and reinforcement

Course by course with bed-joint reinforcement, anchored to structure per design.

  5. 05

    Pointing and finish

Fresh-mortar pointing, face washed with acid solution where needed. Colour and pigment chosen before cure, not after.

  6. 06

    Final acceptance

Plumb check with a 2 m straightedge, diagonal verification, joint uniformity. Recorded.

Materials and standards

Brick and block

Wienerberger, Columbia, or local Aeroc depending on thermal and load requirements. Brick intake by batch, always.

Mortar

Cement–lime mix per wall type. Factory mixes (Quick-Mix, Sakret) where batch stability is critical.

Reinforcement

Bed-joint mesh every 2–3 courses per the structural design. Corner anchorage with separate rebar.

Plumb tolerance

Load-bearing ±3 mm per 3 m; decorative façade ±2 mm per 3 m. We aim to beat these rather than hit them.
